A bird for all seasons

Check out Tane's warming hump!

The wing muscles are of course critically important. I recall that some insects can't fly until they are warm enough. Maybe bees.

Things have hotted up in the robin world as Tane seems to have claimed at least the back of my garden and makes inroads into the garden north of mine - Chestnut's territory. At the same time, he is pushing west where there is a third robin. Many disputes and song contests.

The weather may though take a severe downturn shortly. Freezing nights are forecasts and then possibly blizzards next weekend. The forecast is so bad that we might be allowed or even encouraged to do next Monday's shift from home. I hope so.

In the meantime, what am I doing? Well, planning my introduction to the course; doing the old exercise; reading David Abram's second book; having cold picnics (a roe deer ran past me as I ate salad in a wood); and taking pictures of a robin.

Very interesting to hear about the robins and their territorial interactions!! Sounds like Tane is being assertive. Bless them, I hope they get through winter weather ok. ps to Tane the subsong singer -- Happy 2025 Wishes back to you!
