It rained throughout today's volunteering. But I was only damp due to the effort of sawing on occasions. The old waterproofs held up well.
We were clearing vegetation around fence posts that had to be replaced and then taking out the old wobbly posts and putting in new ones. I liked clearing vegetation (saw, loppers, yay) but then we had to remove the staples that attached the wire to the posts and that was very, very trying (and often not succeeding). Next up, it was new post in, post rammer and new staples. The post rammer was good - I was used to that from my horse owning days. Putting in staples... didn't make a neat job of it but the wire was attached.
The day started with the Crone on local radio as 'an enthusiastic volunteer'. I was certainly enthusiastic. The occasion was the launch of the Wilder Future report.
It ended with this remarkable beefsteak fungus on one side of a tree...
...and another that looked like a clam on the other side...
This tree maybe fancies itself as a Parisian chef?
Oh, and the news from the better-at-birds-than-me folks is - yes, a blackcap.
