Agent attribution

Writer's picture: CroneCrone

I've been seeing these little robot shopping delivery things around my town for a while. Snapped one on a rare local run. Sorry about the quality.

I can't help the agent attribution thing. I find them freaky or sweet or irritating, depending on the circumstances. But always feel, oh, this is embarrassing, I feel sorry for them. Like, does anyone love the little silly car thing with its headlights and its worries about crossing the road?

Does it ever get a pat and a 'Well done?'

What I think frightens me is that through AI we might get 'slaves' that we can treat with absolute contempt and sort of transfer that onto people and other animals.

I mean, if we learn to treat things that are not agents but inspire some of the same responses as agents with no feelings of shared.... sentience... we might learn to treat the real agents as if they were not agents.

So maybe it's good to encourage the agent attribution, just in case?
