Any idea what the dunnock's doing? The strands in the beak may be from the wool I left out for nesting birds, but what's going on with the cherry blossom? Is she too on a nectar quest? Or maybe she's after aphids.

The next day I watched a prolonged chase in the honeysuckle, backwards and forwards, in and out, two birds playing tag for a full minute. Then the female exposed her cloaca and flew to the ground where she stood, presenting herself. The male jumped back and forth behind her, again for a full minute, then jumped on her, but either missed or she dropped him off. He consoled himself with some quiet singing.

It was good to see something, as on the whole the birds are keeping their distance. Making sure no one knows where their nests are.

Mind you, I still see the blue tits.

And today I watched two of the male blackbirds fighting. That was quite dramatic. I filmed it...

... but no photos. Though I can offer this.

Wow -- a battle! The slo-mo is dramatic.
