I've been doing more surveying for the Ancient Woodland thingummy. I did find one that I think fits the bill. It was fenced off and I did not trespass (for once). It was full of bluebells!
I also found a humungous (is that how you spell that??) tree which I think is a poplar. The circumference must have been close to six metres!
The other wood... well... I went beyond the bit that was meant to maybe be ancient (it may be) because I was confused and led on by my nose.
I found it an unsettling place.
When I exited the wood, I saw this...
Five rabbit bodies, laid out. Their guts opened...
It made me think of the hares... and, earlier in the day, I had seen a white and golden-honey-coloured rabbit in with the sheep. Like the goddess of rabbits...
[Is that the best you could do? - Ed.]
[Yes! - Crone.]
Here though, rabbit hell.
I don't get it.
There were pheasant feeders in the wood. Maybe they snare the rabbits as they eat the pheasant food. Snare the rabbits so there are more pheasants to shoot?
This is what we are like.
Yes, I saw the eerie face on the tree trunk and yes that's how to spell 'humungous'. The rabbits are a disturbing mystery.
Eerie indeed. The rabbits could've been laced with poison to kill Buzzards, Foxes and anything else that took an interest. Indiscriminate and unnecessary. One thing's for sure - they didn't get there on their own!
