I'll never get these hours back

Updated: Mar 17, 2022

So, I have been wondering about the noises that CD makes on that video. This has changed from a coo-ing to a gluck-ing and then to this cluck sound - but in all cases the noises are well spaced.

I have come across plenty of references to crows clicking or rattling, but it's a much faster sound. What I am hearing is not the same as this... Oh but check out this raven!!! Sorry... distracted. Ummmm... I love this but that wasn't it.

How sad that I have now become addicted to crows on YouTube. This one has some good sounds... this is even funnier... Ah... what a honk...

[An hour later] OK, I can't find any crow making the same noise as CD though they make a lot of noises.

I suppose it must be a noise in the family of rattling or clicking - and here's what the experts have to say about that:

The rattle-like, knocking/clucking sound is a pretty common vocalization used in a variety of contexts, all dependent on pitch. Juveniles frequently use this call to attract the attention of their parents when they want to be doted on — but don’t want to be fed. It’s more of a “give me attention! I want you to preen me! Love me! But no food — I’m full” kind of call.

This rattle-cluck call is also used by adults to invite attention to something new or strange, or anything that isn’t immediately alarming, but should be paid attention to. In this case the sound is much dryer and more clipped, if that makes sense. It’s a mild warning to their fellow crows, a “lets look and listen and see what this thing does” kind of warning.

Now, I would think we might combine these two and say that maybe CD is saying, I'm more interested in than in the food, right now - but I am still worried. And as you seem to respond to this particular sound in an appropriate fashion, I guess that's the sound I'll make.

Maybe.

Wow! So are the CD clicks/clucks from https://www.coronaandthecrone.com/post/cd-back-with-a-vengeance (Feb28)? I've heard sounds like the first link in THIS post (that raven call in the raven link is wild!). I've also hear crows do a "hello" type call. I imagine if you make the same noise CD makes, he'll like that and return it. Neat-O.
