Monkey puzzle

I thought this would be a good challenge for the fat squirrels. They've not attacked it yet.

But I bought the monkey nuts for the crows. CC, I believe, gives peanuts to the crows and they recognise her... and I fancied making friends with the crows in the park.

There are, I think, four or five pairs living there. One pair is braver than all the others and one is shier than all the others.

Yesterday, two were in a tree and I threw the nuts in the air. One crow noticed, so I threw a few more and then walked away. Lo! and behold! the crow flew down to investigate.

Then I saw the brave pair, they peck around at the top end of the park, where it's quite busy. The shy ones think I'm attacking when I throw nuts their way, but this pair watched me and came hopping toward the nuts. One picked up a nut and flew off with it - I think s/he wasn't sure exactly what it was. The next time I saw them, I had the sense that they recognised me - one hopped forward before I threw the nuts. S/he still wasn't exactly close, but it was rewarding nonetheless.

One problem is that I fail to watch the dog carefully. This leads to problems. Maybe the dog chases the nuts and scares the crows. Maybe the dog sees a dog he doesn't like the look of and bites it (very bad). Maybe I had the dog on a lead and tread on him so he squeaks. This is all unfortunate.

Talking of dogs, on the run I saw a Spanish Water Dog. I really liked her. Hmmmm..... She came from here. But if I get a crow who will accompany me on runs, maybe I won't need a dog.

What a great post! Yes, for many years, I kept unshelled peanuts in my pocket. Where I used to work, there was a large green area, fields and trees, and of course crows and also a family of ravens. I'd go out at break time and over time, some of us got to know each other. They knew who had the treats! And yes, some crows were shy and some bolder, though they always kept a certain distance from me, which was fine with me. Some did come very close but I didn't try to ask them to go on my shoulder or eat from my hand. One time a crow dropped a shiny object (bottle cap maybe) at my…
