The corvids who visit

I think it was this time last year that the jays first came to my garden. A few times I saw three together, sometimes two and occasionally just the one.

Over the course of the winter and early spring, they kept visiting - or at least one did. But after the tree surgery, I didn't see them for a while.

Recently, they have come a few times and I have heard them screeching from close by.

Today there were three. One with a scruffy head and two small and sleek ones. I only managed to capture two - I think it's a parent and a fledgling!

The one on the left is the youngster, the one on the right looks as if she's started to moult!

She flew down to get some water.

Then collected a peanut.

She flew back up to the fence and one of the juveniles screeched and flapped, begging for it!

It has been great to see the starling babies - who are now in their almost-adult plumage, and great to see some crow babies in the park - but I have to say that it feels great to have this jay introducing her kids to the garden!
