Yes, yes, yes. I've been collected poplar twigs. I saw a tree near my gym. The leaves smell like curry powder - but that's because the tree stands outside a spice packaging place. Then I saw another in the garden of a house. I tip-toed up the drive and took some leaves. Lemon-sherbert! Wuji seemed to like the smell - as did someone in the garden (I blame the pigeons) who pulled the twigs out the pot and ate the leaves.
On the run when I stole someone's tree, I was listening to Richard Fortey's The Wood for the Trees, which is rather lovely. As I ran (ambled) up the hill, he was talking of bluebells. Lo! and Behold!
As I was trotting back down, with purloined twigs, he proceeded to discuss butterflies - mentioning the Peacock.... and...
He did not mention poplar. Which was silly of him. Did you know that they were the first trees to have their DNA sequenced?
They do have a connection to the butterfly, though. As Laurie Lava-Books told me. She is a fan of the poplar and offers poplar remedies on her site. She also offers bird remedies... which are made without harming birds... and are for people not birds. No Crow, but she does have Raven. So I asked her what it would mean if a Crone were called by Crow and Poplar. She said: 'I would say you are embarking on a new journey. Poplar’s are butterfly medicine (transformation) (butterfly) they are also protective (the cocoon cycle). Crows have a lot to say, are social. They like to be seen & heard.'
So, you see, it all comes back to poplars.
I have 16 growing...
