**I wrote this before my dog's last day... the tone feels inappropriate now, but when I wrote it, I had no idea Jabi would go downhill so quickly.
As soon as a delivery arrives, Buji's eyes light up. I can't even get things out of the box before he is in it.
He had to go to the vet for his vaccinations. Turns out that they are short of vaccinations and they don't have the injections to rescue the back legs of old dogs either. Brexit. Killing our pets!
The vet, lovely Esther, showed me the state of Buji's teeth and gums. Oh dear. As bad as Wuji's were and now Wuji, like me, is a toothless beast.
This made me very sad. Buji has to go back for cleaning and an X-Ray with the extractions at a later date! This is because now they have an X-Ray - before they just pulled the teeth out. But, said Esther, sometimes the teeth are fused to the jaw and you don't know and you could damage the jaw. Have you ever done that, I asked. No, she said, we've been lucky.
I do not want two vet trips and two anaesthetics - though Esther says two short anaesthetics are safer than one long one. But. Even so. I hate progress. It costs time and money and much stress for Buji.
In response, he has been sick every day so now I am convinced that he, not Wuji, is dying.
Wuji has his new absurdly expensive food and has put on weight. But he screams for the food constantly and will eat it until he pukes.
If he's not screaming for the food he is screaming for the New Toy. This is... one of these. I have to spend much time waving it. He loves it so much that on the first morning after I bought it I woke up with Wuji plus New Toy under the duvet.
Esther gave me anti-inflammatories for the dog. These pills seem to be about £10 per dose. But they might be making the dog more comfortable. If I need more of them, I have to take him back to the vet.
My plans to retire and live on.... well, who knows what... become increasingly unrealistic.
To add to the animal expenditure, I have just put in another order of bird food.
